WHY TAKE MUSIC LESSONS WITH US?

Because at Ron Kaye’s Music Instruction, our professional standards guide every aspect of our business. What this means for you the consumer is that our interest and focus is your music education. We do not make decisions about how we conduct our business based on financial motive or what may be widely popular. It is what is in the best interest of the student’s education and their success which motivates and sustains our success.

  • For example most guitar teachers utilize a 1/2 hour lesson program, as this is the easiest way to enrich the instructor. However, at Ron Kaye’s Music Instruction, we understand that once a student tunes their guitar and exchanges pleasantries, they are beginning about 1/3 rd. into their lesson time. This approach leaves 20 minutes to demonstrate what they have learned the previous week, learn and understand what they are going to be practicing for the upcoming week, and demonstrate some sort of ability to practice the skills correctly. Please do the math - if this is the standard practice for lessons, the instructor can make more money by fitting more students into 1/2 hr. slots, but the student really doesn’t get the adequate time to focus and productively learn. As a result many of these instructors do not teach a whole lot in that 20 minute time span. The only acceptable utilization of 1/2 hr. guitar/string lessons for us is if the student’s age or attention span dictate this as an acceptable alternative. All our stringed instrument students over age 9yrs. old receive full one hour lessons. Compare that standard to any of our competition and you’ll see, our concern is the student’s education - not how much money we can make.

AS A RESULT OUR STUDENTS EXCELL!

WE SPECIALIZE IN MUSIC INSTRUCTION & OFFER OUR STUDENTS ...

FOCUSED TEACHING Our business is teaching music. We are not full time store sales people teaching part time, nor are we novice players looking to supplement our income with a few lessons “on the side.” All our instructors are full time music teachers with a passion for teaching music.

CERTIFIED, EXPERIENCED , EDUCATED INSTRUCTORS All of our instructors have a college degree and years of experience teaching music. Most of our instructors have been teaching music for more than a decade. And our studio has more than 100 years of combined experience creating and performing music of all genres.

ALL AGES BEGINNING TO ADVANCED Our students range from age 3yrs. to over 80yrs. old. And we have students which range from absolute beginner levels to advanced students with over 5yrs. or more of experience studying music.

PRIVATE LESSONS Our Private instruction method ensures each student has a one-on-one session with their instructor which focuses exclusively on the strengths and weaknesses of the individual student to ensure maximum progress and results results.

REGULAR CONCERTS AND RECITALS Our highly entertaining, professional recitals are held twice yearly and usually sold out in the space of a few days, due to the reputation for excellence our programs have. The recitals are voluntary and provide our students with performance experience in a semi-casual atmosphere where confidence and stage presence is gained.

MUSIC THEORY LESSONS All of our lessons include instruction in music theory, because understanding how music works and how it is put together is the key to becoming a great musician. Beyond this instruction, we offer tutoring in music theory for students majoring in music at the local colleges.

FREE REPORT “5 THINGS EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT MUSIC LESSONS”

Music is interwoven into the fabric of human life. In fact, it is nearly impossible to go as long as one day without music. Whether it is TV radio, the car CD player, or the local supermarket ... someone is playing music. People exercise to music, they relax to music, they get psyched for competitions listening to music, they even get their teeth fixed while listening to music. If you were to immerse yourself in a sensory deprivation chamber excluding all sources of music, you would soon be humming a tune before long.

Why is music so important to us? The study of music promotes success in society, success in academics, success in intellectual development, and success in life. Want to be a winner? Study music!

Music is the tapestry of human society. EVERY human culture known to mankind utilizes music to convey its ideals. The scientific proof of the social value of music is clearly documented.

  • Secondary students who participated in music programs report the lowest lifetime and current use of all substances (alcohol, tobacco, illicit drugs) - Texas Commission on Drug and Alcohol Abuse Report. Houston Chronicle, January 1998.
  • “scientific evidence proves that an education in the arts makes better math and science students, enhances spacial intelligence in newborns, and let’s not forget that the arts are a compelling solution to teen violence, certainly not the cause of it.” - Michael Greene, Recording Academy President and CEO at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, February 2000.
  • “The very best engineers and technical designers in the Silicon Valley industry are, nearly without exception, practicing musicians.” - Grant Venerable The Paradox of the Silicon Savior,” as reported in The Case for Sequential Music Education in the Core Curriculum of the Public Schools,” The Center for the Arts in the Basic Curriculum, New York, 1989
  • The College Board identifies the arts as one of the six basic academic subject areas students should study in order to succeed in college. - Academic Preparation for College: What Students Need to Know and Be Able to Do, 1983 [still in use], The College Board, New York

The skills used in the study of Music, not only apply to success in life [i.e goal setting, perseverance, self-discipline, self-motivation, etc.], but also apply to academic success [study skills, communication skills, cognitive skills, etc.], useful in every part of the curriculum.

  • “The term, ‘core academic subjects’ means, English, Reading or Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Languages, Civics and Government, Economics, ARTS, History, and Geography.” - No Child Left Behind Act of 2002, Title IX, Part A, Sec. 9101 (11)
  • Students with coursework/experience in music performance and music appreciation scored higher on the SAT: students in music performance scored 57 points higher on the verbal and 41 points higher on the math, and students in music appreciation scored 63 points higher on verbal and 44 points higher on the math, than did students with no arts participation. - College Bound Seniors National Report: Profile of SAT Program Test takers. Princeton, NJ: The College Entrance Examination Board, 2001.
  • Physician and biologist Lewis Thomas studied the undergraduate majors of medical school applicants. He found that 66% of music majors who applied to medical school were admitted, the highest percentage of any group. 44% of biochemistry majors were admitted. - As reported in , “The Case for Music in the Schools,” Phi Delta Kappan, February 1994.
